Add a classification to your license
Adding a trade takes a separate CSLB application and proof of experience in that trade. We check whether the exam can be waived, prepare the application, and submit it.
Nothing is filed or charged until you approve the total.
What we do
- Check that the classification fits the work you want to do
- Check waiver eligibility for a closely related class (BPC 7065.3)
- Prepare the application and work experience certification
- Send it for your signature and submit it to CSLB
What you need
- Your CSLB license number and the classification you want
- Who will qualify the new classification
- That person's experience in the new trade, with dates and someone who saw the work
Rules worth knowing
Every class needs a qualifier
CSLB requires a qualifying individual for every classification on a license, and experience in that classification.
Common questions
What does it cost?
CSLB charges $230 to add a classification to an existing license. Our $199 fee is separate.
Will I have to take an exam?
Maybe. It can be waived when the new class is closely related and the qualifier has the experience. CSLB decides.
