Reactivate an inactive contractor license
To contract again, an inactive license needs a reactivation application, current bonds, and workers' comp or an exemption, all at CSLB. We put the package together so it goes in complete.
Nothing is filed or charged until you approve the total.
What we do
- Check your CSLB record and what the license needs to go active
- Prepare the reactivation application
- Connect you with a surety if you need a bond, and attach the bonds to the application as CSLB requires
- Prepare your workers' comp proof or exemption
- Confirm active status and your new expiration date
What you need
- Your CSLB license number
- Who currently qualifies the license
- Your workers' comp policy, or confirmation you have no employees
Rules worth knowing
Bonds go with the application
CSLB says to attach all required bonds to the application and not send them separately.
Who signs
A sole owner signs, all partners sign for a partnership, and one corporate officer signs for a corporation, along with every qualifier.
When it takes effect
The license is effective the date CSLB receives the fee, an acceptable application, and the required documents. It is then active for two years from the end of that month.
Common questions
What does reactivation cost?
CSLB charges $450 for a sole owner and $700 for other entities. Our $179 fee is separate.
Can I do this on CSLB's website?
CSLB's online renewal does not handle reactivation. It is a separate application.
