Inactivate or cancel your license

Inactive keeps your license number alive without a bond, workers' comp, or a qualifier. Cancelling closes it, and getting it back means reapplying. We help you pick and file the right form.

Nothing is filed or charged until you approve the total.

What we do

  • Check open jobs and bond claims first
  • Prepare the inactivation or cancellation form
  • Confirm the new status on CSLB's record

What you need

  • Your CSLB license number
  • Which one you want, and whether any jobs are open

Rules worth knowing

Inactive

Inactive licenses renew every four years. You cannot contract, and going active again takes a reactivation application and fee.

Cancelled

To get a cancelled license back, the owner must reapply and request that the license number be reissued.

Common questions

Is there a CSLB fee?
