File your workers' comp exemption
Every active license needs a workers' comp policy or an exemption on file. If you have no employees and your classifications allow it, we file the exemption and confirm it shows on your record.
Nothing is filed or charged until you approve the total.
What we do
- Check your classifications and your situation before filing
- Prepare and file the exemption
- Confirm it shows on your CSLB record
What you need
- Your CSLB license number
- Confirmation that the business has no employees
Rules worth knowing
Who cannot use it
CSLB says you are not eligible if you have any employees, including home improvement salespersons or an RME qualifier, or if you hold C-8, C-20, C-22, C-39, or D-49.
January 1, 2028
SB 1455 moved the requirement for all licensees to carry workers' comp to January 1, 2028, and directed CSLB to set up a way to verify exemptions.
